Looking for a Residency Program?

ABOUT the IN//Between RESIDENCY

IN//BETWEEN is more than just an exhibition. IN//BETWEEN is about creating a space that does not belong to one artist, culture, language, art form, or discipline. It is a collaborative project that brings together artists from different mediums, cultures, and parts of the world. For four weeks, the selected artists examine how they have previously seen and done things and look to what lies ahead: an open canvas, a blank roll of film, a block of clay, an idea or vision that has not been thought of before. Throughout this residency, the artists collaborate to build a unique exhibition that showcases the nexus between cross-cultural dialogue, experience, and growth. They will create a space where diversity leads the way.

Who is this residency for?

This program is suited for any artist who can be based in Berlin during the residency and is open to discussions, feedback, and working in a group context. The program supports both emerging and established artists working in any medium. Applicants must exhibit foundational skills in collaboration, creating and exhibiting art through their portfolio submissions.

WHEN?

Green Hill Gallery hosts two residencies a year. One in August and one in March

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Green Hill Gallery will be available as a studio space for all IN//BETWEEN artists throughout the duration of the residency in addition to a community space to mingle with the larger Kulturschöpfer community.

Furthermore, you’ll get ...

  • Group and One on One coaching and mentoring

  • Discussions on current art topics/theory

  • Group led outings to studios and exhibitions in Berlin for wandering and inspiration

  • Organized lunches and outings

  • Group brainstorming and critique sessions throughout the residency.

  • Curatorial support sessions towards the end of the residency

  • Vernissage: a collaborative show which will be on exhibition in Green Hill Gallery for 1 month once the residency is done.

Accepted artists must commit to attending all planning, preparing, gathering, and discussion evenings. The work for this exhibition must be created between the initial group meeting and the opening of the exhibition. Previously created works will not be accepted.

EXAMPLE OF YOUR WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Kulturschöpfer aims to form a varied program for the IN//BETWEEN. From bonding sessions and discussions to get to know the group in the first week, over KS events, artist talks, and gallery visits to fun community gatherings for drinks or dinner in the evening, the weekly residency schedule offers a lot to experience together! We are happy to support the artists with a flexible schedule, which can be changed spontaneously for their needs. The last weeks contain a lot of studio time for the group to work in the gallery and make their ideas become a reality.

Fees & Funding

Participation Fee: 350 Euros

IMPORTANT: The IN//Between Residency Program fee does not include travel, accommodations, or materials. Kulturschöpfer can offer general materials for planning, group work, and basic craftwork, just like pens, paper, tape, extension cords, drills, saws, hanging material, ... and a lot of support through the gallery team.

some funding options

There are possible funding options available for artists worldwide, either on a global level or national level. We would also suggest looking for organizations and foundations supporting art. One could also find national strategies that support local artists in engaging with international artists to promote the local culture abroad.

As these funding options can take time, please budget enough time to apply for funding in advance to receive it in time to complete the residency application.

Find here a pdf with Funding options.
