The tradition of making pysanky (Ukrainian Easter egg) is rooted in ancient times. The first findings of a painted eggshell in Ukraine date back to the IV century BC. The egg in different cultures symbolizes the beginning of life, the germ of the Universe. Our ancestors found a tremendous sense in this meaning.
The ritual changed and simplified as time passed, but the sacral meaning of creating pysanky persisted. During the workshop, we will:
- dive into a variety of ornaments, their meaning, and distribution over the different Ukrainian regions;
- acquire required skills and techniques for creating pysanky and
- create a pysanka with every participant so you can take a part of Ukrainian culture to your home.
The process of creating pysanky is very meditative. We invite adults and children from 12 years to join us in this magical ritual.
The number of attendees is limited to 15 people. Registration is mandatory.
