The Salon returns! - Save the date

Join us on 15th September for another evening of art and discussion.

What is The Salon, you may ask?

The Salon is a meeting place for anyone interested in art and culture. Each month we create a space for free exchange and learning in the style of an art salon, where local Berlin artists are given a platform to share the decisions and processes behind their artistic projects, and where participants can explore a range of topics and concerns related to contemporary art practice.

This month, we are joined by artists Paula Nahmod (from our current artist residency), Jazmine Alicia Reynoso and Diren Demir.

Paula Nahmod (@paulanahmod, ) is an Argentinian visual artist exploring the relationship between movement and technology in order to investigate how these forces affect our perceptions of reality. Decoding the communication between real and virtual worlds, where space and time appear dissociated, is a clear focus of Paula's rich and varied practice, which was first inspired by her studies in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires in 1996. Paula later completed her post-graduate studies in Mediums and Technologies for the Pictorial Production at UNA. She has since participated in a number of solo exhibitions; namely 'Perceptions in a Simulated Space' (Lidaura Chapitel Municipal Exhibition Centre, 2022), 'Game Over' (Obreras Collective, 2021), 'Perceptions in a Simulated Space' (Centro Cultural San Martín, 2019), 'La Intensidad de las Colisiones Topográficas Urbanas' (Mamia Bretesche Gallery, 2017), 'In Focus: Un Viaje a mi Imaginario' (Centre of Cinematographique Investigation, 2016), 'Artista en vidriera' (Panal 361, 2015), and 'Visualidades' (Architecture Central Society, 2012).

Jazmine Alicia Reynoso (@jaazjazjaz) is a multi-disciplinary artist from San Francisco, California, exploring frames of puppetry, youth educational theatre and green design productions. Through her research into themes surrounding migration and belonging, Jazmine has identified a strong connection to artists who, like herself, battle with racial imposter syndrome. The work Jazmine realized during this research period, which includes her first self-directed show 'Opening Otherness', was first presented in Bucharest, Romania, and later at the Malta Festival in Poznań. Jazmine's former connection to the theatre companies TuYó and Bocón Arts - a diverse Latinx community in San Diego, California - are still both present and important in her life, even today. Jazmine is currently based in Berlin where she is receiving her Master's Degree in Advanced Devised Performance.

Diren Demir (@diren.art) is an interdisciplinary artist and independent curator from Istanbul. Demir’s work seeks transformative solutions to the challenges posed by toxic masculine culture. Demir’s installations and performances frequently deal with revelation and the body-power relationship as a site of conflict. Demir focuses on transformational activism, participatory practices and developing new models of resistance in their artworks. In addition to queer-themed works, in which the “pure existence” of their own body is used to break down stereotypical gender positions, Demir also aims to de-gender memories of place and the city by referring to LGBTIQ+ history in their articles, seminars and workshops.
